Wedding Dress Shopping FAQs
Planning your bridal appointment often comes with a few questions. Here are some of the things brides most commonly ask us about wedding dress shopping, fittings and alterations at Evelie.
Ideally, start 10–12 months before your wedding. If you’re ordering a designer gown made-to-measure, production plus alterations typically takes 6–8 months (timelines vary by designer). Need it sooner? Some made-to-order rush options can be ready in as little as 12 weeks, usually with an additional 15% rush fee.
Yes. With a shorter timeline, a sample sale dress is often the best option. If you need alterations, our rush service can be completed in around 3–4 weeks.
-
Sizing: Review the listed size carefully before purchasing.
-
Condition: Sample gowns are sold as-is, based on their in-store condition (complimentary dry cleaning isn’t included).
-

In most cases, yes—many gowns can be taken in by 1–2 sizes. Larger changes may affect the design and structure, so our seamstresses will advise based on your dress and fittings.
Sometimes, but it depends on the dress and the amount of seam allowance available. Some wedding dresses can be let out slightly, while others offer very little extra room. Our seamstresses can advise on what is possible once they assess the construction of the gown.
If your dress has a train, a bustle is strongly recommended for your reception and evening—so you can move comfortably. We’ll tailor the bustle style to suit your gown and how you want it to look.
Yes. We recommend a cabin-approved travel box so you can take your dress as hand luggage. Fold it carefully and avoid checking it in to reduce risk during travel.
